Japan (Japanese: 日本, Nihon or Nippon) is an island country located in the Pacific Ocean, east of China and Korea, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea in the south. It is composed of over 3,000 islands, the largest of which are Hokkaidō, Honshū, Shikoku, and Kyūshū. Most of Japan's islands are mountainous, and many are volcanic; the highest peak is Mount Fuji.

Historically, Japan adopted many Chinese and Korean customs and institutions beginning in the 5th and 6th centuries. During the 8th century, the emergence of an indigenous culture sparked a "golden age" in Japan called the Heian period, characterized by aesthetic refinement and aristocratic sophistication. The arts and literature flourished, culminating in Lady Murasaki's writing of The Tale of Genji, the world's first known novel.

From the 12th century to the mid-1800s, Japan was a feudal country led by clans of warriors known as the samurai. The Tokugawa shogunate, established in 1603, began to pursue the Sakoku ("closed country") policy of isolation that lasted for two and a half centuries. The arrival of U.S. Commodore Matthew Perry's "Black Ships" and the signing of the Convention of Kanagawa in 1854, signaled the opening of the country to the West. After the Meiji Restoration of 1868, Japan adopted many European and American customs and institutions. Its culture today is a mixture of these influences along with traditional Japanese culture.

Japan is the world's second-largest economy and one of the world's leading industrialized countries. It is a unitary constitutional monarchy with an emperor and an elected parliament, called the Diet, which is one of the oldest legislatures in Asia. Despite its rugged terrain, Japan is one of the most populous—and one of the most densely populated—countries in the world. Greater Tokyo, with over 30 million residents, is the largest metropolitan area in the world.

Japan's name in the kanji writing system is often translated as "Land of the Rising Sun", and comes from the country's location on the east coast of Asia

A Video Game Room---- A Trap

Nowadays, there are many video game rooms in the cities. The customers there are almost young people and the majority of them are students. That worries me, because I know the video game room is a trap.
First, video games badly affect our lessons. Any one who has fallen into this trap can hardly get rid of it. So his marks will be reduced a lot.
Second, playing videogames is a waste of time and money. Once you go into a video game room, it will cost you ten Yuan or more during the few hours. If you are used to playing it, the expenses will be large.
Third, playing video games does harm to our eyes. Since our eyes keeping staring at the screen, and they can’t get enough rest, the eyesight will decrease rapidly.
Now we can see that the video game room is a trap, so every one should be away from it.

Do Rise Every Time You Fall

“The greatest success is not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall.” This quotation occurred to me when I saw on television Evander Holyfield regained the heavyweight boxing championship which he had last to Riddick Bowe nearly a year before. It was really a great surprise to most boxing fans. Over two thirds had bet that the challenger would fail. The result, however, turned out to be the opposite. Did it happen all by accident? Surely not!

Having enjoyed the heavyweight boxing championship for two years, you can just imagine Holyfield’s depression after his defeat. He even thought of retiring from his boxing career. Soon he made a recovery, inspired more by the desire to correct his mistakes than to win back the gold belt. He reformed his training plan and hired a new trainer. After the 51 week’s efforts, he succeeded in winning back the gold belt again.

It was Holyfield’s successful comeback that made me think about our study and daily life in which we are inevitably overwhelmed by frustrations and failures. Should we let difficulties prey upon us or shall we follow Holy’s suit? From my experience in this part, I do not doubt the latter. Every senior middle school student will remember the Entrance Examination to High School. I am one of them. When I saw the total points on the score report, I was crazy because I knew what this meant to me. “Am I dreaming?” “Have I made it?” Yes, I made it! I really made it! “I am going to a key high school.” How wonderful it would be! Suddenly my life changed. It was an illness that put me in the hospital. After a long time about three months, I got to the new schoolyard I just could not wait to go. Everything had changed. I had lost so much time that I might not be able to catch up with my classmates. I could not even put my heart into studying because of my illness. I was in low spirits. Maybe I thought I could not be excellent like before. At this time I got to know Holyfield and his unusual story. The words “Do rise every time you fall” encouraged and inspired me. I gained the courage from the word “rise” and now I am standing here before you. Although there are various factors that influence our final success, it should be admitted that perseverance plays an important role. This encouraged us with a vivid motivation and unfailing incentive to strive and to be innovative to achieve all of our goals.

From these – the story and experience of Holy and myself. I found the truth – THE GREATEST SUCCESS IS NOT IN NEVER FALLING, BUT IN RISING EVERY TIME YOU FALL.

Good evening everyone)(Thank you for you patience)

The greatest invention in my eyes is the telephone, which is essential today in every house. And I believe that each person here own a lovely cell phone, including myself. What dose this phenomena mean? Needless to say, with only over 100-year’s development, telephone has already assumed a role as a family member. (“ played an important part in our daily life ”. ) amazing invention, isn’t it?

And now, let us have a view at the evolution: thousands of years ago, it was not possible or at least very hard for people far away from home having contact with their hometown, which means they could do nothing but to lose contact with their family; then, hundreds of years ago, people away from home could keep in touch with their family only by letters, which they needed to wait for weeks, months for a response; and now, attention, within seconds you can have a pleasant talk with a somebody thousands and thousands away! Wonder, isn’t it? Now, please draw a picture in your mind: you only need to pick up your cell phone, to press the amazing numbers, to wait for several seconds and after she/he get the telephone, to make your voice fly through the air-sea in the form of radio, then a contact is being made as I am making the speech for you.

While, what I appreciate most is not the convenience the telephone offered, but the bridges it made which create contacts between you and your beloved parents, and your hometown thousands away. These bridges work as follows: when you are unhappy, bridge will be made to easy your broken heart by your lovely parents; when you are success, it will be made to share your enjoyment with your friends; when you are helpless, phone call will be made to strengthen your determination, also to give you encouragements.

Through those bridges, can’t you find something?

Probably, after the speech, I may phone my parents. Thank you very much!
