1.except prep. (常与for连用）除…以外

besides, except：
besides, except都含有“除…以外”的意思。
besides指“除外，另外还有”，着重“另外还有”，如：

except的含意是“从整体里减去一部分”，因为“所说的道理或事实不能适用于那部分”，着重于“排除在外”，如：
We all went there except XiaoLi.
