要从答案意思理解，A项答案含有希望落空的意思，第二个空是had+过去分词。在句子中表示事先计划没有成功实现。。。。

其实就是考一个过去完成时。
PS：过去完成时既可表示过去某个时间或动作之前所发生的事情，也可表示过去某个时间或动作之 前所发生的动作一直持续到过去某个时间。过去完成时由“had+过去分词”构成。
举个例子就是She had leant 2000 English words by the end of last month.
