原文：苏氏族谱，谱苏氏之族也。苏氏出于高阳，而蔓延于天下。唐神龙初，长史味道，刺眉州，卒于官。一子留于眉，眉之有苏氏自此始，而谱不及者，亲尽也。亲尽则曷为不及，谱为亲作也，凡子得书而孙不得书者，何也? 以著代也。自吾之父，以至吾之高祖，仕不仕，娶某氏，享年几，某日卒，皆书。而他不书者。何也? 详吾之所自出也。自吾之父，以至吾之高祖，皆曰讳某。而他则遂名之，何也? 尊吾之所自出也。谱为苏氏作，而独吾之所自出，得详与尊，何也?谱吾作也。呜呼! 观吾之谱者，孝悌之心，可以油然而生矣。情见于亲，亲见于服，服始于衰，而至于缌麻，而至于无服。
