my approach is not to do sth. , but rather to do sth. 不是做。。。而是做。。。
but rather是“而是”的意思
前面结构是 is not to do sth, 后面对应的but rather to do sth. 两个都用不定式

一般用到D的话，常见的是
sb. prefer to do sth. rather than do sth.
sb. prefer sth. rather than sth.
rather than sth./ doing sth.
里面的rather than都是“而不是”的意思, 跟but rather "而是" ， 意思不一样。
如这句话可以表达成My approach is learning something about everyting rather than learning everything about something
