问二道时态英语填空题目关于 被动语态的

They said they ---------(invite) to the party.
说话人说了 应该是过去的过去吧
the childern ------(take care of) by their grandmother at the moment

这二道题我知道答案的 但是总是 不知道是用is还是are
metal is used for making machines
the work can be finished in anoter two weeks.
是不是表示一般的用is can后面用动词原形呢？
