To our wives we pleadged our word.
We held their hands;---
We are to grow old together with them.

这个翻译和上面的差不多，最关键的区别在于这个翻译将这首诗变成了一个个人化的爱情宣言，也就是说说话者"我"成为了一个具体的求爱者。翻译回来：
无论生死，不管离分得天涯海角；
我和你订立了契约：
我紧攥着你的手，
我将会与你一起终老。

大诗人庞德Ezra Pound的翻译:
他的翻译很不忠实，但也因此使得这种意译有着独特的魅力：无论用词还是节奏都充满活力。
To stay together till death and end

翻译不回来了：

The later version is a far cry from the original meaning in chinese, but itself embodies something of value.
