It’s universally acknowledged that English as a foreign language is internationally learnt these years. Business people negotiate with their partners or customers in English; Travellers communicate with the local people in a new country in English; Students express their opinions very fluently in an English-speaking class; Some hosts, in China for example, tend to speak some English words while holding a meeting or express release. They all show how much more popular English is than any other language that used to be spoken all over the world.
Some people think it’s better if we speak only English in our lives. They believe English is firstly very widely used now, it’s a good base for us with a hope that we can use English only more but nothing else. Other than that, they also think it’s much more convenient if we can all speak English because it can make it more time-saving and easier for communication.
However, I think it’s not benefiting for people to speak English only other than many languages. As we can always see and feel that everyone except babies and would-be mothers is very busy and overwhelmed with their studies or work. Therefore, we don’t always have extra time for a newly-built or newly-known language, about which it often takes us too much time to learn. And what’s more, it’s very troublsome to leave your own native language and use another one for your business, work or studies. The most important reason is that everyone should speak their mother tongue, it’s a custom which we should stick to.
