请问standby 和 stand by 的区别。 是否都有待命的意思呢？

二者区别在于stand by 后面加“人”，而stand for 后面加“事物”。

根据牛津高阶双解字典，具体释义如下：

stand by sb. 表示“支持；帮助；忠于”。

例句: One should stand by his or her wife or husband.

一个人应当忠于他或她的另一半。 

当stand by 后面加“事物”时（即 stand by sth），表示“依然遵守诺言（或协议等）”

例句：She still stands by every word she said. 

她依旧恪守自己说过的每一句话。

stand for sth. 表示“支持；主张”=support sth.

例句：I hated the organization and all it stood for.

=I hated the ideas that it supported.
