This legend became popular in Wales in the ninth century A.D. and later in Europe through Jeffrey's literary works in Monmouth. Cretian de Trojan, Vas, Leiamen, Mallory and others have written stories about the Holy Grail. The theme of Victorian Age became popular again. The important writers were Tennyson's Pastoral of King Arthur and White's Past and Future Kings. Whether Arthur is a historical figure remains uncertain. Medieval legend says that he was a fighter of the 6th century who supported Christianity and led the British tribes to defeat the Saxon invaders.
