One of the most unforgettable moments for me during my time in college happened during my sophomore year. I was participating in a charity event hosted by my sorority, where we were collecting school supplies for underprivileged children.
My role in the event was to stand at a table on campus and encourage people passing by to donate items such as pencils, notebooks, and backpacks. As someone who has always been somewhat shy, I found the prospect of approaching strangers to ask for donations daunting.
Despite my nerves, I started speaking to individuals who walked by, and I was pleasantly surprised when many people stopped to donate. I remember feeling a sense of accomplishment as I filled boxes with supplies, knowing that they would be put to good use by students in need.
The most memorable part of the day, however, didn't happen until later. As I was walking back to my dorm, juggling several heavy boxes of donations, I heard someone calling out to me. I turned around to see a mother and her young daughter running toward me.
The little girl had been watching me collect donations earlier that day and was so inspired by the work we were doing that she had gone home and gathered up all of her own school supplies to donate. Her mother wanted to make sure I knew how much of an impact my small act had on her daughter.
This encounter reminded me that even the smallest actions can make a difference, and it inspired me to continue seeking ways to give back to my community throughout my college career.
