在没有出现比较级时，请问than的用法是什么？

I daresay, are like this to some extent: They'll answer a question differently in a private conversation with a dear friend than they would if asked the same question by a newspaper reporter on the record。
如此例句中出现的than，我查了很多词典并没有这种用法的详细解释。

看似没比较, 其实大於, 少於也是种比较.
