2. CODES AND STANDARDS
Electrical equipment’s, materials, components and functions will be designed, built, rated
tested and will perform in accordance with the latest applicable standards requirements,
recommendations and guides of the following organizations:

3. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
A. When required, mechanical packages shall include Motor Control Center (MCC) and
Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) for all associated process equipment.
B. In general, all plant areas are considered non hazardous areas. In areas where
flammable materials are handled or stored, the classification will be determined by the
"Recommended Practice for Classification of Areas for Electrical Installations inPetroleum Refineries", API 500, Latest Edition published by the American Petroleum
Institute.
C. In the areas defined as “Class I, Division 1 or Division 2 as per NFPA-70, article 500-
501 - Hazardous (Classified) Locations”, all power, lighting and instruments wiring
and equipment installations included in the mechanical packages for these areas,
must comply with the requirements stated for this hazardous area classification.
D. Maximize the use pre-assembled and pre-wired equipment where practical.
4. VOLTAGES LEVELS
All control equipment and powered apparatus furnished will be suitable for satisfactory,
continuous and stable operation from the following voltages supply:
• 125 V dc, from battery bank for dc control voltage.
• 120 V ac, single phase, 50 Hz, for ac control voltage.
• 230 V, single phase, 50 Hz, for 220 V nominal voltages for auxiliaries (lighting,
heaters, etc.).
• 400 V, 3 phases, 4 wires, 50 Hz, solid grounded for 380 V nameplate motor
voltages.
• 400 V, 3 phases, 5 wires, 50 Hz, solid grounded for 380-220 V lighting and outlets.
• 4160 V, 3 phase, 3 wire, 50 Hz, resistance grounded system for 4000 V nameplate
motor voltage.
