其实，我认为全文最孤独的并不是某一个个体心灵上的孤独。而是梦想破碎或者是梦想缺失所带来的孤独。小说中部的时候，George向candy提起了他们美好的看似近在眼前的梦想，这使得candy也对那美好的生活产生了向往，包括一直都很冷漠的crooks也是，可是一切都随着Lennie误杀了Curley的老婆的那一瞬间开始破碎。他们这群因为有了梦想，而向往着改变无望生活的底层阶级在梦想破灭的时候，表现出了无限绝望。而这种绝望所带来的孤独更容易毁掉一个人。

Actually，I think the loneliest in the text is not the lonely in the soul，it is the lonely brought by dream's breaking or the lack of dream. In the middle part of the story，George mentions their beautiful dream to Candy. The dream was heard so much close at hand that makes Candy and Crooks who is always unconcerned, desire to the wonderful life. While all the things are disordered by the die of Curley's wife, who is man slaughtered by Lennie. The Underclass, which has pipe dreams and looks forward to change the despairing life, gives up all hope when the dream crushed. Just the lonely caused by this hopelessness will destroy a person easily.
