作者Louis Armstrong出身纽奥良贫民区，很小他父亲就抛弃家庭，不知所踪，但困窘的生活并不影响少年阿姆斯特朗对音乐的追求，他在社会最底层长大，还曾经进过少年感化院，所幸他在感化院学会了吹短号（cornet），开始接触音乐。
没几年的时间，18岁的阿姆斯特朗，已经是纽奥良知名的演奏者了，成为当时最红的娃娃欧瑞Kid Ory乐团的短号手，1922年，加入奥立佛国王Joe King Oliver乐团，在前辈奥立佛的指导调教之下，阿姆斯壮进步神速，逐渐建立起他作为一位伟大独奏者的地位。
歌曲在Louis Armstrong 死后，于1971年重新在美国发行并进入排行榜前十。1988年，Louis Armstrong 1968年的版本被电影 《早安，越南》中收录 并重新以单曲发行。
“What a wonderful world" 经历半个世纪以来，被无数的歌手翻唱，也被改编成乐器演奏曲。成为20世纪欧美音乐的一首长久不衰的经典歌曲。
