The construction of the Great Wall was not that easy, and drew heavily on the local resources for building materials.

The construction of the Great Wall was not that easy, and it drew heavily on the local resources for building materials.
The construction of the Great Wall was not that easy, which drew heavily on the local resources for building materials.
The construction of the Great Wall was not that easy, and it drew heavily on the local resources for building materials.
The construction of the Great Wall was not that easy, which drew heavily on the local resources for building materials.

In the presence of so many people he was little tense, which was understandable.
= In the presence of so many people he was little tense, and this was understandable.
