中国的历史进程是依靠组成群体的国家的力量,人不过是国家的一个组成部分,主要是生活在一个以群体为中心的社会里,中国人必须从小就学会如何使自己的行为服从群体的需要,否则将很难适应社会,个体服从集体,集体利益高于个人利益,个人只有把自己放在集体中诠释自我,求证自我。因此在中国文化中,中国人更多强调的是整体,突出集体利益,个人不能脱离群体,甚至个人太出众而独立于群体都会遭到人为的打击。因此,中国儿童从小就被要求要与他人保持一致,体现得最明显就是学生什么事情都要按照老师的要求去做,你和别人要是有什么意见的话也不要表达出来,宁可息事宁人,大事化小,小事化无,不要去生气,你要注重长幼尊卑,因为中国人讲长幼有序的观念,要非常尊重老人,非常尊重父母,非常谦虚,不能自满,不能锋芒毕露,会树大召风,要会收敛。因此中国儿童被认为是被动的、富有可塑性的,必须经成人的帮助才知道去发现社会的存在和社会的要求,于是经常就使用比较成绩,排名次等方法来不断引导孩子了解自己的位置和调整自己的行为,以期成为社会中与大多数人一样的居民。individualism和collectivism里的差别就是这样的明显。

The difference of the educational concept between China and the western world is quite considerable. In the eyes of Chinese people, children are babies. Parents are afraid of their getting cold when they are young and as they grow old, their fathers and mothers hope their children are enrolled to famous colleges and universities to receive good education through all the way, and are still worring about them when they are in colleges or universities. Then after their children’s graduation, from finding jobs, marrying, having babies to looking after the next generation, their parents don’t keep their eyes away from their children.
