年兽的由来是什么？
In ancient times, there was a monster that lived deep on the sea floor for many years and crawled ashore every New Year's Eve to devour livestock and kill people. People called it Nian. On New Year's Eve, people, old and young, fled to remote mountains to avoid Nian.
It was the New Year's Eve of another year, and all the villagers were busy packing up their things and preparing to flee to the remote mountains. At that time, a white-haired old man in the village said to an old woman that if he stayed in her house for one night, he would surely drive away the Nian beast. The people did not believe it.

当“年”兽像往年一样准备闯进村肆虐的时候，突然传来爆竹声。“年”兽浑身颤栗，再也不敢向前凑了。原来“年”兽最怕红色，火光和炸响。
第二天，当人们从深山回到村里时，发现村里竟安然无恙，这才恍然大悟，原来白发老人是帮助大家驱逐“年”兽的神仙。
