Liz (sola burch Thora Birch) was born in the slums, under family since childhood full of holes, parents alcohol abuse drugs, mother suffering from schizophrenia. Mother at the age of 15 died of AIDS. Father into a shelter. Poor Liz need to go out to beg, wandering in the corner of the city with some friends, life seems to be endless suffering. As growth slowly, Liz knew, only read up to change their own destiny, out of the mire of reality. Her with the most sincere attitude (I just need a chance) moved high school principal, to the opportunity of reading. Then, the ritz in the long study started on the road journey. She goes to school on a work-study program, with two years learned four years of high school courses. She tried to apply for scholarship, only the New York times full scholarship to let her through college, and her efforts and apply for the scholarship. When it comes to interviewing, there is not even a decent clothes, then borrow sister's clothes. In the end, she with confident steps walked into the school at harvard. Poverty is not stopped Liz forward determination, in her life, struggle is the eternal theme of courage.
