Recently in China during Chinese New Year, a very popular way of sending out New Year greetings was through 'electronic red packets'. The idea is that this is a more convenient method than using traditional red packets, which are given out during Chinese New Year as a token of good luck for the coming year. With the electronic version, which can be sent through most popular Chinese platforms such as WeChat, Weibo, the person sending the packet does not physically have to meet with the receiver, thus many limitations are removed, such as two people having different time commitments, or being in different locations.
