Qu Yuan (340 -- 278 BC), surnamed Mi, was born in Danyang Zigui (now Yichang, Hubei province), a poet of the State of Chu during the Warring States Period. His given name was Ping and his given name was Ziyuan.

He was exiled to the North of Han dynasty and the Yuan-Xiang Valley because he was slandered by aristocrats. Chu Ying Du was broken by the Qin army, drowned in the Miluo River, martyred chu.

屈原（约公元前340—公元前278年），芈姓，屈氏，名平，字原，又自云名正则，字灵均，出生于楚国丹阳秭归（今湖北宜昌），战国时期楚国诗人。

因遭贵族排挤诽谤，被先后流放至汉北和沅湘流域。楚国郢都被秦军攻破后，自沉于汨罗江，以身殉楚国。

文学成就

屈原是个诗人，从他开始，中华才有了以文学著名于世的作家。他创立了“楚辞”这种文体（也称“骚体”），被誉为“衣被词人，非一代也”。

屈原的作品，根据刘向、刘歆父子的校定和王逸的注本，有25篇，即《离骚》一篇，《天问》一篇，《九歌》十一篇（《东皇太一》《云中君》《湘君》《湘夫人》《大司命》《少司命》《东君》《河伯》《山鬼》《国殇》《礼魂》）。

Qu Yuan (340–278 BC) was a Chinese poet who lived during the Warring States period of ancient China. He is known for his patriotism and contributions to classical poetry and verses, especially through the poems of the Chu Ci anthology. It was said that he committed suicide by jumping into the river after tying himself with big rock on the 5th day of the 5th lunar monthTo engrave his death, people celebrate the festival "Dragon Boat Festival" on the fifth day on the fifth lunar month. It is a celebration where many eat rice dumplings (Zongzi), drink realgar wine (xionghuangjiu), and race dragon boats. Other activities include hanging icons of Zhong Kui (a mythic guardian figure), hanging mugwort and calamus, taking long walks, writing spells and wearing perfumed medicine bags.
