首先谈一谈人文。
我们在这里说的人文，是指人文知识和人文精神。
我们所学的知识可以分为科学文化知识和人文文化知识。像语文、历史、政治、艺术等等，都属于人文文化知识。在这些知识当中，包含着理想与责任、良心与道义、道德与意志、情感与审美等等人类特有的价值观和情感。人是生物性的存在，也是文化的存在。人不同于一般的动物，不仅要生存，还要发展，而动物只知道生存，不知道发展。要发展，离不开合作，离不开人群，离不开社会；而要维系这样一种复杂的关系，就必须有一系列的规定性，生活在社会中的所有正常的人，都必须认同某些规定性，这就是人的文化属性。人文精神就是做人的精神，就是人们主动地去追寻和守护上述价值观和人文情感的精神，就是人们对价值观和人文情感的自觉。
其次谈一谈人文校园和精神家园。
我们所讲的人文校园，是我校学校文化建设的方向和目标，其实质就是要营造一个健康向上，以全体师生的愉快生活，以全体同学的进步和健康成长为本的生活和学习环境。我们所理解、所追求的人文校园，是一个处处有景点，处处有特色，处处有品味，处处有内涵，处处有哲思，处处有文化，处处有精神，处处是经典的人文环境，使师生员工浸润在这样的文化氛围之中，身心受到感染和熏陶，从而丰富自己的人文知识，积淀自己的文化底蕴，提高自己的人文修养，培养自己的人文情感，丰富自己的精神世界，最终养成人文精神！从而也就是构筑了自己的精神家园，为成功打下坚实的基础，为未来的进步和一生的发展积蓄经久不衰的动力！
精神家园，听起来似乎不太好懂，其实很简单。人困了、累了、饿了，需要有个家，需要有张床，需要喝水、吃饭，需要亲情温暖；那么人的精神更不能没有一个归宿，更不能没有一个家园。精神家园就是精神的家，就是精神的归宿，就是精神的寄托，就是情感世界。没有精神家园，就会空虚和无聊，就摆脱不了庸俗和低级趣味。
那么，如何才能满足人类的这种高级需求呢？这就是我要讲的第三层意思——读书是培养人文精神的基础。
读书是培养人文精神的一个基础，是构筑精神家园的一个途径。
读书，可以丰富我们的人文知识，提高我们的人文修养，培养我们的人文情感，养成我们的人文精神，成就我们的精神家园。目前的社会，已经是一个学习化社会，生活在学习化社会不读书能行吗？目前在国内的中小学校园内，“阅读文化经典,建设书香校园”的呼声日益高涨，“书香校园”成为一个新的热点。我们所谓“人文校园”，就包含着“书香校园”的内涵。并非有了书，有了读书的环境，就是书香校园了，关键是有没有人去读，读什么？关键是看有没有理念和精神，关键是看能否持续。如果离开了关键的东西，就是离开了本质，就会因名不副实、缺乏内涵和底蕴而导致昙花一现。正如“书香门第”，核心问题是人的问题，并且是几代人的问题，是几代人的精神积淀的结果，如果一位财主在自己的家里建一座图书馆，而没有几代人的精神积累，那只能叫“私人藏书馆”，而不能叫“书香门第”；“书香门第”是一个精神概念，而不是物质概念。同样的，“书香校园”也是一个精神的概念，其实质是人文精神，是师生员工的精神面貌。
人文校园，就是大家共同的精神家园，共同的理想平台。人文校园离不开广大师生员工的主动性、积极性、学习欲和创造欲，离不开你们的激情和理想。人文校园的形成，需要广大师生员工从自身做起，从读书做起。没有人读书，没有人营造文化，就没有人文校园，也没有我们的精神家园。
