2006年英语专业四级试题有这样一道题
it was ______we had hoped.
A. more a success than B. a success more than C. as much of a success as D. a success as much as
正确答案有两个版本，一个是A 一个是C 。请问究竟那个正确，并解释一下其他的为什么不对。谢谢

B项中more than we had hoped是一个名词性的短语，指的是一个结果。我们把它用result来替换，整句变成it was a success result.错误就很明显了。

A项和B项其实是一样的，more在句中位置是任意的，A项只是把more前置看起来好像跟B不一样。

D项里面不能用much来修饰success的，much是副词，不能直接修饰名词。

正确选项应该是C
这句中of a success是形容词性短语，不妨改写成successful,这句话就变成了
it was as much successful as we had hoped.改写后是不是容易看明白了呢：）

两个版本意思不同

A：it was more a success than we had hoped。这句话，表示它比我们预想的要成功。也就是说我们之前并没有料想他会如此成功。

B：it was as much of a success as we had hoped。这句话表示它和我们希望的一样成功。也就是说，我们之前就有预料，并希望它有什么样的一个结果。

至于b 和 d 语法错误，b 不用说了，d，as much 后头一般要跟形容词，而a success 是名词，我们知道，of 后面加名词构成形容词性的短语。所以，d错了。

E. “More than”或“More...than...”+ 含“can”的分句时表示“否定意”，如：

F. “No more...than...”表示“不……；不如……”，如：
14) I can no more do that than anyone else.

“No more…...than...”的语义，也可用“not any more than...”来取代，因此 15 可以变成 16。
16) A learner cannot... any more than ...”同样的，17可以变成 18：

18) Dr Hu is not a poet any more than Dr Wu is a philosopher.
此外，“more than”也在一些惯用语中出现，如：

总之，“more than”看似简单，其实很有内涵，味道隽永。

这个问题从语法和意义两个方面去考虑。但从语法讲，两个都对但意义不同。much表示程度修饰单数可数名词时，much常放在a的前面，所以A是正确的。在as...as结构中，如果形容词是做定语的，通常连同形容词修饰的名词一起放在该结构中，即as adj+(a)+n as...,所以C也是正确的。
