网上的人经常说there is 和 there are 的区别是单数和复数，有没有大神说明一下他们指的是什么？

例子：there is an apple on the table. there is 指的是apple还是table？
there are some orange on some plate. there are 指的是谁呢？
不然有时候不知怎么区分啊。

There is 和There are 简称there be 句型。

there be 句型可以表示

1.表示某个地方存在某物或某人，可以翻译成有的意思，Be动词的单复数必须依主语的变化而变化。

2.there be意为存在，强调某地有某物，不表示所属关系。

需要注意的是be动词的单复数形式由后面挨近的一项的单复数决定.也就是there be 的就近原则。

所以：There is a apple on the table. there is 指的是apple. 

There are some oranges on some plate.There are 指的是some oranges

there be结构是倒装结构，主语是be后面的部分，因此be的数应该与其其后的主语的数保持一致。
there is a apple on the table. there is 指的是apple，主语是apple，单数，因此是is.
there are some orange on some plate. there are 指的是some orange，主语是复数，所以是are.

当two apples 离 be 动词近的时候，用are, 当a banana离be动词近的时候，用is。
