Competition is a common phenomenon in our social life. We compete when we play games, we try to do better than others in our study, and there is constant competition for jobs, fame, wealth and so forth.
We can say that, in a certain sense, competition is one of the motive forces of the development of the society.
竞争是我们社会生活中的普遍现象。当我们玩游戏时，我们会竞争，我们会努力在学习中比别人做得更好，而且在工作、名望、财富等方面也会不断竞争。可以说，从某种意义上说，竞争是社会发展的动力之一。
We often find competition and cooperation at the same time. Think of a football game. During the game, one team is competing against the other, but each member of the team must cooperate with his teammates.
Otherwise, they would lose the game however skilled every individual player might be.
我们经常同时发现竞争与合作。想象一场足球比赛。在比赛中，一个队与另一个队竞争，但每个队员都必须与队友合作。否则，他们将输掉这场比赛，不管每个球员的技术水平如何。
英语翻译技巧：
1、省略翻译法
这与最开始提到的增译法相反，就是要求你把不符合汉语，或者英语的表达的方式、思维的习惯或者语言的习惯的部分删去，以免使所翻译出的句子沉杂累赘。
2、合并法
合并翻译法就是把多个短句子或者简单句合并到一起，形成一个复合句或者说复杂句，多出现在汉译英的题目里出现，比如最后会翻译成定语从句、状语从句、宾语从句等等。
