Parents from all over the world all love their children, but some parents love their children too much. When their children go to college, they still want to do many things for their children ‘s life. It only takes freshmen some hours to move into the hostels, but letting parents leave colleges costs much more time. Some parents even stay for some days around the college.
In order to separate freshmen from their parents and make freshmen live a life of their own as soon as possible, Morehouse College in Atlanta, America, holds the ‗Parting Ceremony‘ every year.
The ceremony begins in the evening. It is held in the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel. After a speech, freshmen walk through the gates of the campus, leaving the parents outside.
Beside Morehouse College, University of Minnesota holds a similar activity. Mothers and fathers will be invited to a reception, so freshmen can meet their roommates and discuss how to furnish their rooms without interference from their parents.
