Born in 1924,Bing C. Wong joined the Canadian Army at the age of 18.In a photo of him,he is standing next to tow older soldiers with a sunny smile.You can find the photo if you visit Chinese Canadian Military Museum.

In 1945,he became one of around80,000Canadians who volunteered to take part in the attack on the Japanese home islands.

Asked about his decision to volunteer,Wong said that as a Chinese Canadian,the decision to join in the attack wasn't just about being brave Nobody wanted to go out there and get killed.However I just wanted to show everybody that the Chinese weren't cowards
