这是我们英语书上讲中西文化差别单元的一片文章，具体就是说英国人不喜欢在吃饭的时候被别人打扰，他们觉得吃饭是一件很私人的事。
A：hello,good morning,sir
B：hello，Rebecca.How are you doing?(有最近怎么样）
A:I'm doing okay.（我还可以)
B:but you look confused,what's the matter?
A:noting,I visited my foreign teacher just now,but it seemed that he didn't want to talk with me.I don't think my english is that bad.
B:I see.You do speak excellent English,but communication is more than pronunciation,intonation（声调）,grammar and vocabulary.It means a lot more.
A: I’m not really sure what you’re getting at.（我不懂你的意思）
B: Ok. Let me put it another way. Did your teacher look displeased?
A: Yes, he did. Did I annoy him?
B: I guess so. But I don’t think it has anything to do with your English. It must be your way of doing things or saying things. In other words, you didn’t pay attention to the cultural rules.
A: That’s exactly what he said to me?
B: Ok, tell me briefly about your visit to him and let me see what happened.
A: All right. I went to see Mr. Travis just now. He was eating. I knocked on the door. No one answered. I pushed the door open, and I found him eating. Why didn’t he open the door right away?
B: I see. Did you make an appointment before you went?
A: No, I thought I knew him quite well, I chatted with him often, you know.
B: Well, if I were you, I wouldn’t have gone to see him at dinner time, even worse, without an appointment, because eating is considered very private.
A: What other subjects are considered private?
B: Men’s salary and women’s age, for example. Don’t talk about or ask about politics, illness, sex, different parts of the body, etc.
A: What can we talk about then?
B: About sports. About weather, art, literature(文学), education, food, dress, music, hobbies and so on. An English man and an English woman can talk about weather for hours, even if they don’t know each other.
A: That’s funny. Isn’t it?
B: Not really. Different people have different cultures. So when you go to a foreign teacher’s home, you should be well prepared, culturally prepared.
A: Oh, I see. Thank you, Mr. Wang. I hope you can give us lectures about the western culture.
B: Good idea. I will if I can find the time.
