When screening ten selected essential oils against adult A. aegypti only three pure oils, Z. piperitum, A. graveolens
and K. galanga, exerted repellent potential with median complete-protection times of 1, 0.5 and 0.25 h, respectively.

in all cases of fresh and stored samples, in accordance with the findings of other studies [8,16,17] that reported
improved protection against mosquito species of some plant extracts and volatile oils mixed with vanillin. This was
probably due to the lower evaporation rate and better skin persistence of plant products, after the addition of vanillin.
According to the current results and those of other researchers, it is noteworthy to note that the volatile oil should be
formulated with vanillin in order to improve repellent efficacy. These findings exemplified the developing application
of repellents of natural origin by reformulation with synergists or additive substances.
