Have you ever had one of those days (or weeks or months...) that were so crammed with activity that by the time you finally got to the end of it you felt like you'd been run over by a truck? Even if the time was spent doing things that you love with people that you love, it undoubtedly proved to be just too much.
We've all had those times and seasons in our lives and while sometimes the excess busyness is unavoidable, usually we can do a better job of planning for more balance in our scheduling.
One of the things I really like to do is shop. I find it to be a most enjoyable way to spend some time either by myself of with family members or friends. I can even manage to keep at it for several hours but then I begin to weary of the process and am more than ready to go on to another activity (truthfully, after a long day of shopping, the next activity might well be a nap!) This could be said of almost any activity one could think of. Too much of even a good thing is, well...too much.
One of the problems is that if we spend too much time at any one thing, we of necessity slight something else. There are only a certain number of hours in the day and we have to decide how we can best fill those hours. A wise person once told me that it was good for everybody to have at least one thing they had to do every single day that they didn't particularly enjoy or want to do but that needed to be done. In my own life, I have found that assessment to be accurate. Human nature is not at it's best when everything is always "sunshine and roses". In order for us to really appreciate the good times, we must experience the bad times as well. By that logic, if we spend time doing things that we don't like but that still need to be done we can better appreciate the times when we are doing the things we most enjoy. It's the combination of these experiences that makes for the well-rounded, happy life.
