Assume that the height of the tank is 15 cm.
In order to completely cover the small cube, water of volume 10cm x 15cm x 8cm (height) is at least required.
But in the bottom of the tank had already placed a small cube with 8 x 8 x 8
Hence, the minimum volume of water needed to cover the cube is
(10 x 15 x 8) - (8 x 8 x 8) = 1200- 512
The answer you would get is 688.

(10 x 15 x 2) - (8)= 300-8
The answer you would get is 292.
