Nowadays it is hard to deny the facttthat bribery and other questionable payments are on the increase. Many international businessmen find it difficult to practice their own personal code of ethics. For instance, sometimes during negotiations some government ministers will let it be known that a significant bribe will help avoid delays in procedure.It is easy to talk about having high moral standards but, in practice, what would one really do in such a situation? In the competitive world of business does a businessman pay or does he stick to his principle and risk the chance of facing multiple future difficulties? A number of years ago a British motor producer was willing to state, in private, that if they were not doing it,then certainly somebody else would. In many countries the practice of bribery has been a normal course of conduct for hundreds of years, and in others it appears that the incidence of giving bribes is on the increase. Of course bribery and other questionable practices come in many shapes and forms and can be achieved by a variety of means ranging from overstated commissions to direct payments.
