I usually get to school by taking public transit. Firstly, I begin my commute by taking a 10 minute walk to the bus station near my home. At the station, I take bus route 101 which arrives every 30 minutes. The bus ride is around 25 minutes with traffic. I usually spend the time on the bus reading, chatting with friends or revising my lessons.
Once I arrive at the transit hub, I transfer to metro line 2 which operates very frequently. I only wait around 5 to 10 minutes for the metro at most. The metro ride to my school's nearest station is 15 minutes. Upon getting off the metro, I take another short walk of around 8 minutes to arrive at the school gates.
My whole journey usually takes around one hour door to door. Though a long commute, I do not mind as I feel it gives me time to prepare for the day and unwind on my way home. Public transit also allows me to save money that I would otherwise have to spend on fuel if driving, or cab fares if taking taxis. It is a convenient, green and affordable means of transportation for me as a student.
Taking public transit to get to school is a common experience that many students worldwide can relate to. Though not always the fastest commute, it plays an important role in facilitating education by providing students a reliable means to get to school every day at an economical cost. For me, it is an integral part of my daily journey as a student.
