My son is a typical "child who can't sit down". The highest record for him to stay in his chair and do his homework is only 30 minutes. After 20 or 30 minutes, he had to leave the desk and "run, jump and dance" for a few minutes before he had the courage to come back and continue his study

I once hated this habit - "do you have thorns on your buttocks? Can't you finish all your homework before you go to play?"

What once puzzled me was that the son of "let me fly" had a very good score, and he could rank first in all the California unified examinations.

On the contrary, not long ago, a Singaporean mother complained with a sad face: "our husband and wife are both graduates of famous universities, and our son is especially obedient. He can seriously sit at his desk and study from school until before he goes to bed... However, why did he fail in the unified examination several times, and why did he get worse in the higher grade?"

In fact, many modern studies have revealed that the effect of continuous long-term learning is not as good as "interval learning".

For example, Paul Kelley, a researcher at Oxford University, once conducted an experiment with Surrey business school in the UK.

600 business school students were divided into three groups. The three groups of students learn the same materials, but in different ways:

The first group participated in traditional academic lectures and seminars;

The second group was self-study;

The third group used the "intermittent" learning method.

Different from the first two groups of students, the students who use the "intermittent learning method" will have several short-time "intense learning" during the one hour long learning, and between the several "intense learning", about 10 minutes of rest time is arranged for each time to do things unrelated to learning, such as copying Picasso's paintings.

A week later, the students were tested. The test is divided into three parts: knowledge acquisition, knowledge application ability, and whether knowledge can be extended and applied to areas not covered.

What is surprising is that in the "knowledge acquisition" test, the students who use the "intermittent learning method" remember 20% more knowledge than the students who use the traditional learning method, and 23% more knowledge than the self-taught students!

In other words, students who "often rest" in one hour's study, compared with students who study continuously for one hour, remember one fifth more things!

In the "knowledge application" test, intermittent learners are still in the lead, and their application ability is 13% higher than that of traditional learners and 19% higher than that of self learners; In the "extended" test, intermittent learners are 10% higher than traditional learners and 15% higher than self learners.

Researchers have found that for learners who study continuously for one hour, 78% of the knowledge they can remember is acquired within the first half hour of learning.

After that, their brains lost their original vitality - only 22% of what they remembered in the second half hour.

In other words, in an hour's course, the effect of the first half is nearly four times that of the second half.

This is only the result of one hour of high-density learning. Let's imagine that many children today, after coming home from school, have to devote four or five hours of intense learning. If there is not enough rest, how much strength can their small brains have left?
