a word 或words 可以表示为word的单数或复数
Word came that he'd drop on me tonight. 有消息传来他今晚会来拜访我
word 如果前面不加任何冠词它的意思一般译为“消息”
还有就是一些固定的用法，如
have a word with sb 意思为“和某人聊天”eg:
I wonder if I could have a word with your brother? 不知道我可否与你的兄弟聊一下？
have words with sb 意思为“和某人吵架”
It's the man that I had words with in the department store yesterday afternoon. 昨天下午在百货商店和我吵架的就是那个男的。
