Today in China there exist side by side two different teaching patterns: a teacher-centered class and a student-centered class. But the differences between them are enormous.
A teacher-centered class is no doubt the product of examination-oriented education. There are several characteristics in this kind of class. To begin with, teacher always lectures while students are sitting behind their desks as passive listeners, taking notes and trying to memorize every word teacher said. Besides, students have no chance to express their ideas and there is little communication between students and teacher. Therefore, such class is usually boring and students are less motivated.
