1.add up to是合计为多少的意思，add up是合计、加起来的意思。如：Add these numbers up.

2.你说得对.是我英语不好，所以我说的不被理解。你说用make myself understand，我懂你的意思，但是这样用不能翻译为“我不能理解”，因为make有强制的含义，那意思就是让我去理解。意义不好。一般说来，make oneself后边常用Ved，表示被动。

3.回答thank you一般不用don't say so.常用You are welcome./It's my pleasure./Anytime./Not at all!等。

4.which指代stories,从句实际上是this is the most instructive of the stories.所以才选择of这个介词。
Where is the book from which you quoted this sentence? 这里from和quote搭配。
选择介词一要看主句的动词，二要看关系代词指代的那个词。

5.spend some time doing是固定搭配没错。但这个句子意为：我把自己关在书房里呆了三个小时。locked过去分词作定语，是描述我的状态，被关着。如果用locking,意思就变为我花了三个小时做锁门这件事。

6.ones指代上文中提到的health problems.意思是汽车给我们造成的健康问题比手机严重得多。mobile phones do,这里省略了.

7.从句里缺成分，answer后边缺宾语，所以这是定语从句，as指代先行词problem，在从句中做宾语。因前边有such,只能用as,不用that或which.
