Mr. Chan is a strong advocate that accountants should understand and be proficient with information technology. As the Chairman of the IT Committee of the HKICPA from 1999 to 2001, Mr. Chan initiated and led a number of important initiatives and projects including: the setting up of the Y2K Task Force to provide guidance to the profession in dealing with the “Millenium Bug”, the introduction of WebTrust licensing to train and enable accountants to provide services in relation to certification on security and privacy protection for transactions on the Internet, and setting up the first XBRL Working Group to embark on producing the necessary taxonomy for HK.

Ø As a champion of corporate governance, Mr. Chan was the Deputy Chairman of the Corporate Governance Committee of the HKICPA and a member of the Internal Control and Risk Management Guide Task Force for producing the guideline: “Internal Control and Risk Management – a Basic Framework” by the HKICPA in support of the Stock Exchange in 2005. As a member of the Task Force, Mr. Chan played an instrumental role in ensuring that the “COSO Internal Control – Integrated Framework” was introduced and included in the guideline.

Ø Mr. Chan is a popular speaker at conferences and seminars in Hong Kong, the Mainland of China, Singapore and Malaysia and has provided professional internal control, internal audit, IT audit, risk management and corporate governance training for professional bodies such as the Hong Kong Institute of Directors, the ISACA and other accountancy bodies. Mr. Chan has also been invited to speak at conferences minars organized by government authorities such as the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the China Insurance Regulatory Commission and the People’s Bank of China and other conference organizers such as Euro Events, Marcus Evans, ABF and AIC.
