Shark Fin
It is not much long time for Chinese people to regard shark fin as a kind of precious delicacy since Ming dynasty. It is not until Qing dynasty the shark fin has already became an most indispensable and rarest delicacy at many great feasts from North to South in China, Which at that time was known as "no shark fin, no good feast." Nowadays ,general people can also have a taste of the delicious shark fin at some slap-up restaurants. The great development of modern fishing technology has brought a great calamity to sharks. Fishmen, after catch sharks, often take down only the fins but meat and then throw the body back into the sea in order to save space for more fins.
Shark fin is highly praised for its relative to the Chinese health culture. Traditional Chinese medical science think that shark fin can benefit vital energy, reinforce insufficiency and whet one's appetite. Modern gastronomes say that shark fin are full of collagen which may help people prevent skeleton aging and cancer, nourish skin,prolong one's life and so on. In face, from the perspective of nutriology, shark fin does not have special nutritive value than others.
Both form nutrition and hygiene perspectives, eating shark fin does no good but harm. The mercury and other heavy metal content in sharks are much higher than other fish. As industrial effluent discharge constantly into the sea, the heavy metal content has raised. These heavy metal go inside the body of sea creatures. Sharks, at the position of the top of the food chain, have eaten other fish with its heavy metal come along inside. Therefore,by accumulation, the heavy metal content in sharks has being grown higher and higher.
