If you want to be a successful salesman, you need to follow several basic steps.
First, when a customer is approaching your counter, greet him with a welcoming smile and say, "Can I help you?"
Then, if the customer asks whether you have a certain product, don't just say "yes" but display what you have in front of him on the counter. Sometimes a customer may not know exactly what to buy. If that is the case, you should help him clarify what he really needs.
Third, when the customer shows an inclination to buy the product but still hesitates, never press him but explain patiently that this is the best he can ever have. Make sure you speak from his point of view, or he will grow suspicious that you just want to sell him something.
Finally, when the customer takes out his wallet, don't think you can celebrate your success now – any customer may change his mind at the last moment. You should tell him for how long the product is guaranteed, and advise him how to take care of it. And don't forget to say that he can have a change or refund if the product does not work properly. This final touch will make the customer feel secure with your product, and therefore willing to pay for it.
