A lesson for young and old
Wu Liangyong is a 92-year-old professor. In September, 2014, he was invited to give a speech at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. However, many of his audience who were college students fell asleep during the speech, it embarrassed the professor, the organizers and the students.
Students are blamed for their lack of respect. Young people should respect the elderly and listen to their good advice.
Although we are living in a fast, ever-changing world, older people's wisdom is still useful. We can draw lessons from their experience and solve the problems of our age.
For the organizers, they have to learn that bigger is not always better. It turns out that many students were ordered to attend the lecture. This is called "papering the hall". It means filling the hall with people to make an activity look successful. That's why many students were uninterested in the speech.
This is a lesson for both young and old. If Professor Wu Liangyong decides to give a speech to young students next time, organizers should choose a smaller venue and a more respectful audience for him. That would be a better way for the professor to share his knowledge.
