In New Zealand ，there is a moving story about birds. According to legend, long long ago,there was a kind of lovely bird living in the forest in New Zealand.Once, in order to put out a fire and protect the forest , the beautiful feather of this bird was burned,and its wings and tail were also burned.From then on, it had neither wings, nor the tail .Just like the ugly duck of Anderson fairy tale , it became very shy . And it just showed up at night while it was hiding during the day . Because this litter birds often say "several dimensions," people call them " kiwi"

It was 65,000,000 year ago the Cretaceous Period later period , the New Zealand once with Australia and the antarctica was connected .Later, Australian and the Antarctica splited and drifted to the present's position . The New Zealand also floated away from the Australian mainland .At that time, there was not appearing mammals on earth , or appeared but not widely distributed.
Later, at other continents, there appeared higher animals, because of the barrier of the sea , there was no way to enter New Zealand .Therefore, when the kiwi was no predators and not by flying to avoid predators and prey, as time passed , the kiwi's wings would gradually degradate and it becomes the look like now .
So it is how the kiwi bird lost its wings .
