请教高手一句英语的动词理解！

出自新概念第四册47课的一句话：The opinion does not survive experience of a popular Continental camping place. 译文是：这种说法在受人欢迎的欧洲露营地是站不住脚的。
如果要我来翻译这句话我会说：The opinion does not survive at a popular Continental camping place. 因为我觉得survive在这句话中应该是及物动词啊，实在不理解它后面为什么跟了一个experience……想咨询下这到底是什么结构！请教高手详解！万分感谢！

Survive [I or T] to continue to live or exist, especially after coming close to dying or being destroyed or after being in a difficult or threatening situation
--继续存在或生存，特别是几近死亡或几遭毁灭，或是经历了危险或困境之后。
所以“survive experience”是指经过人们的体验之后，仍然受到欢迎。
根据前面的“not”, 说明这种观念最终没有站得住脚。
