For the purposes of this journal entry you must reveal your true abilities as a Shakespearean scholar. Having completed the first two acts of the play, certain contrasts between characters are being revealed. Likewise certain characters seem to be struggling with internal conflicts (or the masks they put on and take off). In the following journal entry you must accomplish two tasks:

1) Using lines from Much Ado About Nothing you must highlight a contrast between two different characters. You should explain how Shakespeare is using the characters to make comments about the complex game of love. How do the characters contrast one another? Why would Shakespeare choose to do this?

2) Choose a single character from the play who seems to struggle with an internal conflict or who seems to wear different masks at different times. Find some lines from the play that reveals this internal struggle. What does this internal conflict reveal about the character? What do you think Shakespeare is trying to show about human emotions?
