关于more than的用法

关于more than结构在句中什么时候是比较结构，且什么时候又作为单纯的状语用？感觉很乱，特别是长难句中又是甚至都翻不出意思。还有形如其带的not.no.等结构的全部尽可能出现的用法。 请高手们归纳下用法，最好用自己的理解，请不要复制。

这两个词的用法及区别,很明显是不一样的.
no more than:是相当于一个“副词”（adv.）。意思是：“ 只是”
例如: I am no more than a worker.
我仅仅是个工人。
分开用时表示“和……一样、正如……一样”。
He is no more deligent than I am.
他和我一样不勤奋。
not more than：是相当于一个“名词”（n.）。意思是: “至多”
例：The experiment was done by not more than 5 persons.
做这个试验的人至多5个 。

no more than:

不过,仅仅

例句与用法:
1. He is no more than a worker.
他仅仅是个工人。

2. It's no more than a mile to the shops.
离商业区不过一英里.

3. Our new foreign trade policy is no more than some general practice in international trade.
我们的新外贸政策只不过是国际贸易中的一些通常做法罢了。

4. His whole school education added up to no more than one year.

1． More…than 是大家熟悉的一种比较结构。常译为“比…更…一些”

但是：I was more angry than frightened

在这里，将more…than理解为“比…更…一些”，是不行的。如何解决这一问题？我们可以从的结构入手，分析其用法。

1.1不同的人或物在同一性质上的程度比较，译为：“比...更…一些”

Facts are more eloquent than words

事实胜于雄辩

He is more concerned about others than about himself

他关心别人比关心自己还多

1.2 同一人或物在不同性质上的正确程度。即，前一项（more项）比后一项（than项）更正确一些。可译为：“与其说…倒不如”

He is more diligent than clever

与其说他聪明，倒不如说他勤奋

It is more a poem than a picture

与其说这是一幅画，倒不如说是一首诗

由此，上面的一个句子我们可以译成：“与其说我害怕，还不如说是生气” 但,这句话既不可以说成I was more angrier than frightened 也不能理解为 I was angry, I wasn’t frightened

1.3 more…than 在这个结构中，than在语义还可以相当 “and not”

He is more modest than to say this

他很谦虚，不至于说这种话

I am more diligent than to cheat exam

我学习勤奋，不会考试作弊

1.4 more(…)than的结构后接can/could。从翻译角度讲，more(…)than可理解为not，表示否定，整个结构可译为“是…所不能”

He has more books than he can read

他的书多得他看不完

The beauty of Hangzhou is more than I can describe.

杭州景色之美，是我无法描述

1.5 在no more…than这个结构中，than后面形式为肯定，而意义上则为否定，可译为“不是…就像…不是一样”

A whale is no more a fish than a horse

鲸不是鱼，就像马不是鱼一样

A fool can no more see his own folly than he can see his ears

蠢人不能自知其蠢，就像不能自见其耳一样

但是，当用作限定词时，有时也可译为“和…一样少”

2． More than 的几种意义

2.1 more than+数词，可译为“…以上”“…有条”

There are more than 100 students in our class.

我班有一百多位学生

2.2 more than+名词（名词性词组），可相当于（not merely）译为“不仅仅”

His report is more than a survey.

他的报告不仅仅是一份调查

Words are more than combinations of sounds,as people are more than flesh and blood

词不仅为声音的组合，正如人为肉和血的组合一样

2.3 more than+动词，可译为“极大地”“岂止是”
