1.The Bear And The Two Travelers旅人与熊
TWO men were traveling together, when a Bear suddenly met them on their path. One of them climbed up quickly into a tree, and concealed himself in the branches. The other, seeing that he must be attacked, fell flat on the ground, and when the Bear came up and felt him with his snout, and smelt him all over, he held his breath, and feigned the appearance of death as much as he could. The Bear soon left him, for it is said he will not touch a dead body. When he was quite gone, the other traveler descended from the tree, and accosting his friend, jocularly inquired "what it was the Bear had whispered in your ear?" he replied, "He gave me this advice: Never travel with a friend who deserts you at the approach of danger."
两个人一块旅行，在路上突然遇到了一只熊。其中一个人迅速爬到了一棵树上，把自己隐藏在了树枝间。另外一个人，看到自己必定会受到攻击，于是平躺在了地上。熊靠近这个人，用鼻子触碰他，然后把他问了个遍。这个人屏住呼吸，然后尽自己最大努力地装死。熊立刻离开了他，因为它不会碰一个死去的躯体。当它走后，另一个旅客从树上下来，然后和他的朋友打招呼。诙谐地问道：“刚才那只熊对你说了什么？”。他回答道：“他给了我一条建议：永远不要和一个当危险来临时丢下你的朋友一起旅行。”
