"There are no short cuts to success" is a hackneyed cliche, though it is true to some extent, as with many quotes of its kind, it should not be taken in its absolute form. There are many ways to improve one's listening comprehension, one of which is to start with words that you already know. One learns little from material that is too difficult. Second, learn from one and only one set of book. Different authors teach differently, and learning in numerous ways may result in conflict. Learning only from one curriculum endows a clear understanding of the material covered. Lastly, regularly tune in to English news channels can also improve one's listening comprehension. One can learn many words in the news, as well as keep up with world events.
