Several years ago,the teacher asked us to write down anything in our past that we felt sorry for.The next week he asked some of us to read it aloud.After three weeks,I had 101 things on my list.
The.next week,the boy next to me read his story:
"I grew up in a small town.None of us kids liked the sheriff in the town.One night,my two best friends and I decided to make fun of him.We found a can of red paint and wrote some bad words about the sheriff on the tall water tank in the middle of the town.The next day,the people in the town saw these words.Within two hours,the sheriff had my two friends and me in his office.My friends said they did this but I lied.No one ever found out.About 20 years later,his name is on my list.Last weekend,I called him and said, 'This is Jimmy Calkins.And I want you to know that I did it.''I knew it!' he said. We had a good talk .His closing words were,'Jimmy,I always felt bad for you because your friends got it off their mind,and I knew you were carrying it around all these years.I want to thank you for calling me…'"
Jimmy inspired me to clear up all 101 things on my list.It took me about two years.I know that it's never too late to clear up the past past and move forward.
