Now, I am preparing myself for being an Expo 2010 Volunteer in May. Till last training, I have spent one or two hours on two books related Expo, one is World Expo English Using Handbook, and the other is Expo Shanghai Volunteer Reader. There is no must about the two books, but I believe every member in my group pays much attention on this experience, Expo 2010 Shanghai China, and especially, our particular role—volunteers in Expo Side.
Actually, it’s not my first time to be a volunteer in some public major activities. Therefore, I am confident with myself. For this Expo 2010 Shanghai China, there are still some challenges for us. Firstly, it lasts for 184 days, nearly half a year, from May 1 to October 31, 2010. Some people remembered the exposition in Kunming in 2001, which lasted three months. It’s a Recognized International Exhibition. The exposition in Shanghai this year belongs to the other type, a Registered International Exhibition. Secondly, too many people we have to face every day. There are more than 200 countries and international organizations participating in Expo 2010, 70 million visits are expected to attract. In other words, we can meet people from different countries, areas, custom and culture. The most significant thing for us is that we treat everyone of them friendly. We believe smile is available in all countries on the earth. Lastly and not the least importantly, we will get into many different unexpected situations. One part included in our training classes is how to deal with emergencies, for example, fire, lost children, crowd … Once I mention this part, I am a little nervous. I know the right thing for me is to calm down. In fact, I am afraid I will lose my control in that situation. So, I read materials about it as more as possible.
Expo 2010 Shanghai China is counted on our figures. We are ready, and welcome to Expo 2010, welcome to Shanghai China.

BEST AND WORST!
I clean trees, solo. I'm a team player, but trees can't wait for a coincidence of free time to get everyone together. I'm so efficient at it that my county can't keep up with the brush that has to be removed from my efforts. I've had to wipe my sandals and go to the next closest town to volunteer. When they tell me, don't do a complete job (don't take the dead diseased dying limbs from trees) that means I can't do a quality job. I'm stuck. I love being outside, doing tree care, but I've come to the point that I'm feeling guilty about working for free. There are TOO MANY invasives in our environment and the branches will fall eventually anyway, and probably take the trees with them if we don't put more effort into maintenance instead of constantly planting. Planting more trees is not the antidote to invasives. I would appreciate any advice beyond, of course, notifying every jurisdiction that I plan to work in - I am now very skeptical of institutions, esp. gov't with its ltd budgets.

A volunteering experience that really impacted my life was when I volunteered at the downtown station on Thanksgiving to serve food for the needy ones. Being able to help those around me had opened my eyes to the world. I am no longer self-centered about my life but rather focus on my fellow mankind and God's will. This valuable experience has set a pattern in my life to keep on helping others and serve my community. I feel that I had become a better person by volunteering, and that only through volunteering can I fulfill my purpose for existence. Even though a person should always looks at life in a positive way, ignoring the imperfection such as poverty is an ignorant thing to do. My first experience at volunteering was also my favorite events and a defining moment in my life.
I learned more about myself after a long day of serving food and setting up cans than I did in my entire life. I learned that the pampering my parents give me had shape me into an almost ignorant person. I always had something to complain about my life even when everything is smoothing sailing, and that caused me to feel so ignorant when i saw how others life are not easier. By me getting involved to help others, I am slowly evolving from being self centered person to become more empathetic. I can feel the hardship of those around me, and that God wanted me to give my best effort to help. That volunteering moment is a defining moment in my life and God. I feel that I have came a long way in building my character and morality, and that through volunteering I had made a difference in my community even if it is only a little bit.
I know God have a plan for every person because without it each of our existence will be meaningless. This experience have connected me to God's will and given me a better reason to live for- helping others to overcome their adversary. I always wanted to become a nurse so I can help others with their sickness, and that volunteering experience has confirmed the...
