1、意思不同

high school 指中学，包括高中和初中。middle school 专指初中，专指高中可以用senior high school 。

高中：Senior high school

初中：Junior high school或 middle school

小学：elementary school，或者是 primary school

幼儿园：kindergarten 

大学：university 或 college   

university与college在表示“大学”时，在不同英语国家中的使用并不完全相同，在此主要讲一下美国的情况：

university所指的“大学”一般是综合性的大学，主要提供本科，研究生，博士学位的教育。

而college所指的“大学”一般规模较小，而且一般领域的专业性会比较强，多数是提供本科学位教育。
